We’re driving down the road to drop you off at college, and I thought I had all the time in the world with you. I was wrong. I thought some days would never end, when really they were over far too soon. Now we’ve arrived at a departure point, the end of something, and the beginning of something, too.
There is no going back. I can look at the golden hours, shining brightly in my memory. The heavy-laden moments are there, too. Mostly there were countless carefree moments lost to memory that were the tempo of our days. But all of them are behind us now.
I was late in learning that time is my most precious resource, the only commodity I can never renew or replace. I wasted so much of it.
But here we are, and what’s left for us is forward. And that’s better. Because forward is endless possibility. So much is unknown, but the path is lighted by hope, the certainty that what we leave behind isn’t much at all compared to what lies ahead. Let the adventure begin.
“Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 ESV
